12-12-1925. Newcastle and Scotland marksman Hughie Gallacher made his debut for Newcastle United on this day in 1925. Four days after signing from Airdrieonians for £6,500 Gallacher made his League debut against Everton at St. James’ Park. The game ended 3-3 and Gallacher netted twice for the Magpies. Toffee legend Dixie Dean scored one of his club record 37 hat-tricks in the match.
Gallacher was top scorer in his first season with 23 goals in 19 games. In his second season at the club he captained Newcastle to their second League title. In his five seasons he netted 143 goals in 174 appearances, placing him fourth in the list over Newcatle’s top scorers:
