Mohun Bagan AC – the Mariners – in their green and maroon shirts are the
oldest football club in Asia. Established in 1889. Situated in the city of Kolkata (formely Calcutta) in West Bengal. West Bengal is the centre of Indian football. Their rivals Kingfisher East Bengal Club – the Kingfisher was added in 1998 to promote the Indian Kingfisher beer. East Bengal play in red and gold.
They met on saturday 15th April in a floodlit encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium.
A crowd of 70 000 including FIFA President Sepp Blatter saw Mohun come out on top 2-1. All three goals where scored by brazilian imports.
