Argentina retained the U-20 World Cup by defeating the Czech Republic 2-1 in Sunday’s Final. All three goals came in the second half. The Czech Republic took the lead in the 60th minute (Fenin) but Argentina equalized within two minutes when Sergio Aguero the tournament’s top scorer netted his sixth of the tournament. Argentina came through the knock-out stages with wins over Poland (3-1), Mexico (1-0) and Chile (3-0) in the Semi-Final. The Czech Republic needed penalty shoot-outs to overcome both Japan and Spain before they defeated Austria 2-0 to reach the Final.
Argentine number 10 Sergio Aguero also won the award for the tournament’s best player. Aguero was signed from CA Independiente by the Spanish club Atletico Madrid for €23m in May 2006.
