On this day – Bob Paisley appointed as Liverpool Manager

26-7-1974: Bob Paisley takes over as Liverpool manager after Bill Shankly‘s resignation. Paisley who had joined the club as a player in 1939 was Shankly’s assistant.

During Paisley’s nine season’s in charge Liverpool won six League titles, three League Cup’s, one UEFA Cup and three European Cups.

  • 1977 Liverpool 3 Moenchengladbach 1 (Rome)
  • 1978 Liverpool 1 FC Brugge 0 (Wembley)
  • 1981 Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 0 (Paris)

After Paisley’s resignation in 1983 Joe Fagan – a further member of the famous Liverpool boot room – took charge.
