This is the second part of a series on League Two club Rochdale AFC. The first posting covered the club’s history. In this posting the subject is preparations for the new season.
Rochdale started July with a week’s training camp in Spanish Cadiz. In Spain they won both of their matches 3-1 over Gibraltar (Glen Murray 2 and Ben Muirhead) and 1-0 over Conference South Lewes Town. Adam Le Fondre – Rochdale’s £35,000 summer signing from Stockport – scored the game’s only goal.
After their return from Spain they met Unibond outfit Rossendale United at their Dark Lane ground. The match finished with a 1-0 victory to The Dale thanks to a goal by former Oldham striker Kallum Higginbotham
The following weekend Rochdale lost 0-2 at Southport. But Rochdale where back in form for their Centenary match against Oldham. Le Fondre gave Rochdale the lead from the penalty spot after a goalless first half. Oldham equalised in the 53rd minute but Dagnall scored a late winner for Rochdale.
Rochdale won their last home match before the new season when they beat League One Huddersfield Town 3-0 yesterday. All three goals came in this first half. Le Fondre netted twice and Rundle scored the other.
The two final matches before the League begins are Droylsden Away on Tuesday 31st July and Northwich Victoria Away Saturday 4th August.
