  • English Premier League: A late goal by summer signing Michael Chopra gives Sunderland a 1-0 home win over Tottenham the first game of the 2007-8 season.
  • German Bundesliga: Both of Bayern Munich‘s new strikers Klose (2) and Toni score in Bayern’s 3-0 home win over Hansa Rostock.
  • English Premier League: Sven-Goran Eriksson‘s new-look Manchester City win 2-0 at West Ham.
  • English Premier League: Two goals from Martins give Sam Alladyce a triumphant return to the Reebok as Newcastle beat Bolton 3-1.
  • English Premier League: A late Steven Gerrard free-kick gives Liverpool a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park. A Gareth Barry penalty equaliser in the 85th minute appeared to have given Villa a point but Gerrard decided the match two minutes later.
  • English League One: Leeds open with a win at Tranmere. Two second half goals by Heath and Kandol cancel out Tranmeres 1-0 half time lead. A crowd of 11,008 saw the match.
  • French Ligue 1: Le Mans, AS Nancy and Bordeaux have full points two games into the season.
  • Spanish Super Cup: Sevilla win the first leg of the Spanish version of the Community Shield  1-0 over Real Madrid thanks to a first half penalty by Luis Fabiano. The second leg will played at Real’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium next weekend.
