Glossop – The Bottom of the Top

63 teams have played in the highest division in the English league system. In the overall table of the games played since 1888 Glossop holds the bottom spot.

The Derbyshire team had one season in the First  Division (1899-00). They finished bottom, winning four and drawing 10 of their 34 matches.

Glossop together with Manchester City where the first clubs to be automatically promoted to the First Division and Glossop is the smallest town to have had a club in the top division of English football.

The club dropped out of the football league under the five year pause caused by the first world war.
