6-12-1977: Liverpool demolish German club Hamburg SV 6-0 in the second leg of the European Super Cup at Anfield. The first leg in Germany had ended 1-1. 34,931 saw Terry McDermott score a hat-trick. Phil Thompson opened the scoring in the 21st minute. McDermott doubled the lead five minutes before the end of the first half. He completed his hat-trick with two goals in two minutes (55 and 56). Fairclough and Dalglish scored late goals to complete the rout.

    A wonderful victory for Liverpool. I wonder whether Kevin Keegan knew what had hit them that evening. I hope Liverpool return back to that summit again in the not to distant future.
