On This Day – 66 Lose Their Lives at Ibrox

2-1-1971: 66 supporters died in the second Ibrox disaster on this day in 1971. A crush at the end of the 1-1 draw between Rangers and Celtic resulted 66 dead and over 200 injured. The Ibrox stadium was modernised to an all-seater stadium after the disaster.

The first Ibrox disaster had occurred  in 1902 when a part of the terracing collapsed killing 25 and injuring over 500. The Home International between Scotland and England was abandoned. All proceeds from the the replayed match at Villa Park in Birmingham went to the disaster fund.
