On This Day – Vinnie Jones Born

5-1-1965: The hard man of pitch and screen Vinnie Jones was born on this day in 1965.

Here’s a couple of quotes from Phil Shaw’s The Book of Football Quotations.

He’s incredibly loyal. Ask him to jump off the stand roof and he’ll do it. But he’s as thick as two short planks. He always grabbed the quiz-book on our coach trips so he could ask the questions. That way he didn’t have to answer.

Arnie Reed, physiotherapist at Jones’ first club, Wealdstone, 1988.

At half-time on my Wimbledon debut our old kit-man, Sid, came round with the tea. I asked him how I was doing and he said ‘I’m 85 and if you gave me the No. 4 shirt I’d do better’.
