On This Day – Leeds United Play First League Match

Leeds United played their first League Game on this day in 1920. The game ended in a 2-0 defeat at Port Vale in the Second Division. Leeds United had replaced Leeds City who had expelled from the league after eight matches of the 1919-20 season and where consequently dissolved due to financial irregularities. United finished 14th in their debut season.

Leeds City was founded again in 2005 and play in West Yorkshire League Premier Division, the 11th level of the English game.
