On This Day – Viv Anderson Born

Nottingham Forest and England full back Viv Anderson was born on this day in 1956. Anderson was part of the Forest team that won the League title in 1978 and conquered Europe in the following two seasons. 96% of Forest fans voted for Anderson as right back in their all time Forest XI in 1997.

Anderson was the first black player to represent England when he made his debut against Czechoslovakia at Wembley in November 1978. He went on to win 30 caps over a ten year period.

Anderson moved from Forest to Arsenal in April 1984. Three years later he became Alex Ferguson’s first signing at Old Trafford.
