20-9-2005: Aston Villa come back from 1-3 at the half way mark to defeat Wycombe Wanderers 3-8 in a second round Carling Cup tie on this day in 2005. Wycombe who where then playing Football League Two took the lead through Tyson after only six minutes in front of a crowd of 5,365 at the Causeway Stadium. Davis equalised after 14 minutes, but Wycombe replied twice (Johnson and Mooney) to take a 3-1 lead to the break.
David O’Leary, the Villa manager, must have read the riot act as the Villa turnaround was started by Milan Baros only three minutes after the break. It went a further 16 minutes before James Milner leveled the score at 3-3. The final 21 minutes of the game resulted in five more Villa goals – two by Gareth Barry, an own goal by Easton and a second for Davis and Milner.
