On This Day – Scholes Scores Two on United Debut

21-9-1994. United midfielder Paul Scholes made his debut for Manchester United at Port Vale in a second round League Cup game on this day in 1994. Nineteen year old Scholes netted twice in United’s 2-1 victory at Vale Park. The game was played in front of a crowd of 18,805.

The United team was: Walsh, Neville G., Irwin, Butt, May, Keane, Gillespie, Beckham, McClair, Scholes and Davies.

Scholes finished the season with a total of 25 appearances and seven goals. The ginger terrier from Salford has been a regular at Old Trafford since and has currently played 649 games for the Reds.
