On This Day – Duncan Edwards Born

Munich clock at Old Trafford1-10-1936: On this day in 1936 Manchester United and England legend Duncan Edwards was born.

If I had to play for my life, and could take one man with me, it would be Duncan Edwards.” Bobby Charlton

Edwards made his debut for United aged 16 years and 185 days and for England two years later making him the youngest England player since the war, a record that was later broken by Michael Owen in 1998. He went on to win 18 England Caps and play 177 games for United before his early death in the Munich Air Disaster of 1958.
