18-10-2005. On this day in 2005 Thierry Henry passed Ian Wright as Arsenal top scorer. Henry netted twice in the Champions League tie away against Sparta Prague. The first goal Henry’s 185th for the Gunners equaled Ian Wright’s record. Wright had held the record since 1997 when he surpassed Cliff Bastin‘s record of 178 goals from 1939.
Henry who now plays in Major League Soccer for the New York Red Bulls finished with 226 goals in an Arsenal career that lasted from 1999 to 2007.
