On This Day – Hurst Scores Six Against Sunderland

19-10-1968. On this day in 1968 Geoff Hurst scores six as West Ham defeat Sunderland 8-0 at Upton Park. The victory is a club record for a League game. The other goals where scored by Bobby Moore and Trevor Brooking. The First Division match was watched by 24,718.

West Ham’s line-up was: Ferguson, Bonds, Charles, Peters, Stephenson, Moore, Redknapp, Boyce, Brooking, Hurst and Sissons

The Hammers finished the season in eigth position 23 points behind champions Leeds United.

Hurst shares the record for the most goals in a match with West Ham’s all-time top scorer Vic Watson who also scored six in a pre-war match against Leeds.
