England where undefeated in a group that included Northern Ireland (qualified as runners-up), Romania, Finland and Turkey. They scored 21 goals in their eight qualifiers and conceded only two.
England reached the Quarter-final of the finals that where played in Mexico. Maradona and the ‘hand of God‘ sent England out of the tournament.
