On This Day – Arsenal’s Record Home Attendance

25-11-1998. Arsenal‘s record home attendance was set on this day in 1998 for a Champions League match that was played at old Wembley. Arsenal lost 0-1 to French Lens in front of 73,707. The other group matches against Dynamo Kiev and Panathinaikos also attracted over 73,000.

The highest attendance at Highbury was 73,295 for a league match against Sunderland in March 1935. The match ended 0-0. Arsenal where champions that season four points in front of runners-up Sunderland.

The record at the Emirates is 60,061 against Manchester United in the Premier League in November 2007. A late goal William Gallas earned a point for the Gunners. Gallas had opened the scoring with an own goal in the last minute of the first half. Fabregas equalised in the 48th minute, before Ronaldo gave United the lead again.
