3-12-1981. Barcelona and Spain striker, David Villa, was born on this day in 1981. Villa is the top scorer for the Spain with 44 goals in 77 games. Raul has 44 from 102 games, while Liverpool’s Fernando Torres has 26 from 82 games. Villa was an important part of the Spanish team that won Euro 2008 (Villa was top scorer in the tournament with four goals) and the 2010 World Cup (Villa was level top scorer with five goals).
Villa began his club career at Sporting Gijon in 2001. He moved to La Liga team Real Zaragoza before the start of the 2003-4 season. He scored 32 league goals in 73 before he left for Valencia. Villa’s best season at Valencia was in 2008-9 when he netted 28 times in 33 games. Before the current season Barcelona invested £34m to bring Villa to the Nou Camp.
