8-12-1929. On this day in 1929 AS Roma win 1-0 at Lazio in the first Derby della Capitale. The match is known as the fiercest contest in Italian football. The teams share the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Their is a history of political differences between the team, SS Lazio are associated with right wing politics and AS Roma left wing.
The first derby to played in the current olympic stadium ended as a 1-1 draw in November 1953. Roma’s best result (5-0) is from 1933, while Lazio’s (3-0) is from 1994.
Roma’s Francesco Totti holds the record for the most derby games with 27. He has scored six goals, three behind Dino da Costa and Marco Delvecchio both of Roma.
The overall Serie A standings between the two clubs are 47 wins to Roma, 34 to Lazio and 54 draws.
