On This Day – Chasetown Play in the Third Round of the Cup

5-1-2008. Chasetown FC, became the lowest club in the English football system to play a third round FA Cup tie, when they met Cardiff City on this day in 2008. The Staffordshire based club where at the time playing in British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands, while Cardiff where in the Championship.

The game attracted a record 2,420 spectators at The Scholars Ground. Cardiff won the game 3-1 and ended the minnows journey to Wembley. Chasetown, who where founded in 1954, currently play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division together with this season’s Cup heroes FC United of Manchester.
