World’s 100 Best Players – England’s Decline

In September 2007 I wrote about the English football magazine FourFourTwo’s list over the 1oo best players in the world.

In the recent issue of the magazine they listed the best players in the world for 2010. I’ve awarded each player points – number 1 received 100, number 2 99 points and so on. In 2007 England where the best nation with 781 points, in front of Italy with 720 and Spain with 636.

Here is a list over the English players in the 2007 list with their points:

  1. Gerrard (95 points)
  2. Rooney (93)
  3. Scholes (84)
  4. Terry (79)
  5. Ferdinand (77)
  6. Lampard (76)
  7. A. Cole (74)
  8. Beckham (58)
  9. Hargreaves (49)
  10. J. Cole (43)
  11. Owen (33)
  12. G. Neville (16)
  13. Carragher (4)

After a dismal World Cup and a disappointing Champions League campaign, with Manchester United and Arsenal being eliminated in the Quarter-finals, English players are harder to find in the current list:

  1. Rooney (89 points)
  2. Lampard (88)
  3. A. Cole (86)
  4. Gerrard (81)
  5. Terry (67)
  6. Ferdinand (49)
  7. Scholes (38)
  8. Hart (5)

A total of 503 points 278 points down on 2007.
