On This Day – Romford Pele Born

7-3-1973 Arsenal and England midfielder, Ray Palour, was born on this day in 1973. London born Palour was nicknamed ‘The Romford Pele’, a tongue-in-cheek reference to his bustling, no-nonsense style of play. He made 339 league appearances for the Gunners between 1992 and 2004. Parlour was part of the Arsenal team that won the League and Cup double in 1997-98 and 2001-02. He won his third League championship in 2003-04 and won further cup winners medals in 1993 and 2003.

Parlour scored this stunning long range effort in the 2-0 FA Cup Final win over Chelsea in 2002.
