On This Day – Steve Bloomer Born

20-1-1874: Steve Bloomer the leading player of his era was born on this day in 1874. Bloomer is the third highest goalscorer in English football history behind Jimmy Greaves and Dixie Dean. Bloomer started and ended his career at his home town team Derby County. Bloomer was top scorer in the First Division on five occasions and scored 291 goals in 473 league games for the Rams. He played his final match for Derby aged 40 in 1914.

Bloomer scored 28 goals in 23 appearances for England.
